Having skimmed this what I clearly need first is "Lacan for beginners for beginners". The writer of this book is clearly a Lacan enthusiast but forgets just how little the average person knows and, perhaps, could have done with being rather more s: I then purchased Lionel Bailly's book "Lacan: A Beginner's Guide" and found it a very smooth read.
My experience of having read two books prior to Bailly's book enabled me to read Bailly's book with ease, but it also enabled me to say that whilst the book is a great start, it lacks the depth one may be looking for with particular topics in Lacan/5(64).

Lacan For Beginners is written with insight and wit and illustrated with examples from popular culture and cinema. The 5/5(1). This book is not a good place for beginners (like me) to start. I have some familiarity with Freud and a little with French language theory, but this book oversimplifies.
In addition, it has a polemic approach, aiming to show that Lacan is the "true" interpreter of Freud/5. This books attempts to convey Lacan's ideas in terms of cartoons and folksy commentary. This is impossible: there is no royal road to Lacan.
If you are willing to invest the time and effort needed to grasp this difficult subject, I would recommend Lionel Bailly's Beginner's Guide to Lacan/5(17). Buy Lacan: A Beginner's Guide (Beginner's Guides) by Bailly, Lionel (ISBN: ) from Amazon's Book Store.
